Peter Dundas is famously detail-oriented, whether he’s hand-draping an evening gown for Beyoncé or producing his latest accessory: face masks. In vibrant florals and animal prints plucked from his runway collections, these aren’t like the Ufc Fight Night With My Daddy Shirt it is in the first place but cotton “fashion masks” nearly every brand has made this summer. Dundas is the first designer to make custom-printed medical-grade masks, the same kind doctors and nurses wear in the hospital, typically in the same shade of icy blue. Dundas and his partner, Evangelo Bousis, were inspired to rethink the basic design after talking to the healthcare workers in their family; one cousin, a nurse, lamented the sterile look of surgical masks and the way they covered her colleagues’ smiles and expressions. (Similarly, my sister’s NICU team treat their hard-to-find lavender or pink masks as prized possessions.) “We thought it would be nice if we could make something uplifting,” Bousis explains.

“We’ve always wanted to be a feel-good brand,” Dundas adds. “I truly believe our colors and patterns make you happier. They light up your life like a bouquet of flowers. Wearing a mask and hiding your face is a challenge, and if we can make people feel better about it, that’s a good thing.” The launch was three months in the Ufc Fight Night With My Daddy Shirt it is in the first place but making. In March and April, most factories were only taking orders for hospitals or state governments, and figuring out the technical specs took time. Dundas was also as meticulous about the scale, proportion, and placement of his prints, and insisted on black straps instead of white; each one is as thoughtful as any of his cocktail dresses or lamé blouses. His customer may not be buying as many of those fanciful pieces right now, but she definitely needs a mask. “Being a small brand, it’s important to stay nimble and have an open attitude to new categories, and adapting to what men and women need right now,” Dundas says. On that note, he recently launched activewear and loungewear in his signature prints, too, plus a new line of unisex sunglasses.
